GOOD FELLOWSHIP
CLUB SPIRIT PRAISED GISBORNE BOWLING CLUB PRESIDENT’S ADDRESS "1 ’would like to refer to the evident feeling of good fellowship that existed during the past season and I am sure that this has greatly assisted the tournament and match committee in its work,” declared Mr. J. S. Waite, last year’s president oi the Gisborne Bowling Club, in addressing the fifty fifth annual meeting of members of the club in the pavilion last evening: The retiring president, Mr. Waite, was in the chair .and there was a large attendance. After extending a cordial welcome to the members present, the chairman said he trusted that the business would show that the prospects for the season were very bright. The meeting passed a vote of condolence with the relatives of the late Messrs. W. W. Bridge, W. S. Coleman, J. E. Sheen,’ and J. L. Smaill. “The report refers to the good condition of the greens during the season,” said Mr. Waite, in moving the adoption of the report and balance, sheet, "but 1 would go further, and state that the gregns- have been kept in a -better condition than for a number of years.” Greens In Fine Order Favourable weather was a big facxor, but, the good order was clue in a large measure to the use of the new space roller. Mr. Waite drew attention to the statement of accounts, which showed that the expenditure totalled £6OO. He pointed out that when all subscriptions and other usual revenue had come to hand there was about £IOO lo be made. up. This was accomplished by holding floodlight tournaments and other competitions and every effort had to be made to fill the gap. He did not consider it fair that the burden should fall on a few individuals, as was the case. Mr. Waite said that in his opinion the only way of righting the position was to increase the subscription, but that would require a notice of motion to the next annual meeting, or, alternatively, the holding of a special general meeting. He considered that a fee of £5 5s would not be out of the way and it would ensure the success of -the club. Helpers Thanked Mi-. Waite said that in addition to those helpers mentioned in the report the thanks of the club were due to Mr. T. F: Crawford, who had been the auditor over a long term. The motion was seconded by Mr. G. Henderson, and in supporting it Mr. J. G. McGregor endorsed the suggested increase in the subscription rate. The motion was carried imam , mouslv. & ' __
