Following yesterday’s report from Havana, that tihe Cubans had established a three-one lead over .'the Canadians in the Davis Cup elimination series and would therefore meet the Australians in the American zone final, the Australian manager, Hopman, told the Australian Associated Press that he would have preferred a Canadian victory against Cuba, because Canada would have drawn a larger gate at Montreal. “We should win quite ealsily,” he added. “The Cubans' play wholly on hard courts and will not be at their best at Montreal on grass.” Havana reports that in the concluding singles game Jose Augero (Cuba) beat Bruce Hall (Canada), C —4, (5 —0, G—4. RIGGS AND COOKE WIN (Rccd. July 25, 9 a.m.) NEW YORK, July 24. In the final of the men’s doubles of the Maidstone tennis, tournament at East Hampton, Riggs and Cooke beat Wood and Shields, 2 —6, 10 —8, B—6. 6—4.
