NOT PLACED ON TRIAL

CASE OF LT.-COL. SPEAR DIFLO MAT 1C STAND INC! (Reed. July 20. 1.30 p.m.) PEKING, July 10. The Japanese army spokesman, in denying that Lieutenant Colonel C. R. Spear, the military attache at Shanghai, had been on trial, said it was recognised that he was a military attache and therefore, that lie had certain diplomatic standing. The crux of the matter was whether he had exceeded his duties and privileges. He hoped that British officials would be invited to attend the courtmartial. Lieutenant-Colonel Spear had been detained for 54 days.
