PREVENTING VIOLENCE

NEW BRITISH MEASURE DEALING WITH T.R.A. (Reed. July 20. 2 p.m.) LONDON. July 19. The Prevention of Violence Bill gives the Home Secretary the same powers to deal with Irish Republican Army suspects as undesirable aliens, including the right to refuse admittance and powers to deport people who have lived in Britain for less than 20 years, and also is empowered to make suspects register and check the activities of those moving from one •place to another. Suspects may be arrested without a warrant. The bill applies to all members of the Empire, but will be restricted to Irish Republican Army suspects. The Cabinet rejected the institution of a passport system for Eire. The proclamation of the Irish Republican Army as an illegal organisation was inadequate.
