SCOUT NOTES

BUSY DAYS WITH TESTS TUSSLE BETWEEN TR< M )PS Gills CARRY ON WELL By “Scouter" Over the weekly period of Scou' and Cub meetings much has been clone in the way of test work. Mangapapa troop has settled down at last to work hard, particularly m relation to the King’s Scout badge work. First class test work also -has been practised and part tests completed. R. Corcoran. I. Mullooly, and L. Hope completed their estimation test last week-end. At the moment there arc 'four or five Scouts who have almost completed the test for first class and King’s Scout. The Y.M.C.A. also are doing very good work in these subjects, and it looks like being a tussle between the two troops as to which will win the honours first. Over the week-end Patrol Leader R. D. Harries completed his first class lest, and he has also completed his King’s Scout badge tests and will be presented with the emblem in the very near future. Sea Scouts Do Good Work The Sea Scouts are doing very good work and, besides ithc usual activities of the troop, some of them can find time to indulge in outside hobbies, for I see where one of the Sea Scouts has shown some poultry at the recent poultry show, with a fair measure of success. I believe that there are at present three full patrols in action, with a possibility of completing a fourth, but that can be inquired into by intending recruits. Sea Scouts meet at 7 o’clock on Saturday evenings in the R.S.A. room. Read’s quay. The Cub packs arc carrying on very well, although at this period of the year, when the weather is so cold, more games than work is the order.

The inaugural meeting of the Rover crew was held last Monday evening, when there was a very encouraging attendance. Rules and objects of rovering were discussed, and the following appointments made: Acting Rover mater. K. Esters; scribe. D. Francis; treasurer, P. Mitchell; commissariat officer, J. Borlase; janitor, W. Maunsell. The next meeting will be held on Monday, at 7.15 p.m.. in the Scout room at the Y.M.C.A.
