SCOUTS’ CYCLE RELAY

INTER-ISLAND CONTEST COURSES AXXOUNOED START NEXT FRIDAY (For Tress Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Final arrangements are being madei for the Boy Scouts' cycle relay race, North Island versus South Island, to. take place next week. The race Li to be held in connection with trei, closing of applications tot attend the j centennial jamboree at ileretaunga ; j : n December and the final number oQi New Zealand boys attending, will be announced shortly afterward. The race will start simultaneously I at Auckland and at Invercargill on Friday, Jutv 14 at 3 p.m. Riding day) and night in relays, the Scouts wilt I race over the following courses: — North Island. —Auckland, Hamilton, Te Awamutu, Te Kuiti, New Plymouth f Hawera, Wanganui, Palmerston North, Wooriville. Mastcrton. Wellington. South Island.— Invercargill, Gore, Dunedin, Oamaru, Tirnaru, Arhburton, Christchurch. The riders will collect from each district through which they pass the final, figures for representation at the jamboree of Scouts in that district. In many instances, these will be handed over to them by the Mayors of the towns through which the route leads. The winning island will be that which averages the fastest time, the mileage ridden being divided by the number of hours taken to accomplish the ride. Arrangements for the riders and relays, times of. meeting, transport and accommodation of the Scouts are being undertaken by the various district commissioners. The North Island riders are expected to arrive at Wellington late on Sunday. Great interest is being taken by Scouts throughout New Zealand and keen inter-island' rivalry has been aroused. The North Island course is the more arduous, though perhaps better weather may be expected over the greater part of the journey.
