MCCREADY AGAIN
MATCH WITH DONOVAN FIXTURE FOR GISPORNE Earl McCready, the British Empire wrestling champion, and a prime favourite with New Zealand enthusiasts, is back in the Dominion again ancf drawing bigger crowds than ever. Naturally Gisborne enthusiasts are anxious to see him in action and the opportunity will be given next Saturday night, when the Canadian will have a return bout with "Irish" Jack Donovan, as tough a nut to crack as there is in the country. The first time the men met, a most gruelling, encounter resulted and, although McCready gained the only fall, Donovan's performance was so good that anything is liable to happen when they meet again. In fact, Donovan is such a shrewd as well as capable wrestler that he will be a more difficult proposition through having had one experience of McCready as an opponent. McCready has just returned from a world tour, in the course of which lie had 60 matches in England and South Africa and in none of them was he beaten. Included among the men he defeated was Johannes van der Walt, of South Africa, who had laid claims to the Empire title. Although the South African had a strong following in his ow n country, he was beaten by two falls in four rounds when lie came up against McCready. New Zealanders have had good cause to appreciate McCrcady’s qualities over a long series of matches and they have yet to see him give a poor display. Although ho specialises mainly in orthodox wrestling, lie will allow his opponents to take no liberties and this is something which the aggressive and rugged Donovan is likely to discover quickly next Saturday night Donovan, however, can be depended upon to give a good account of himself as he has earned considerable respect since he arrived at the beginning of the season and has been among tne most successful of the visitors. Although ne places considerable reuance upon jolts and other rough tactics, he by no means overlooks the value of scientific holds and counters and lie is fully qualified to make matters decidedly interesting for McCready. Amateurs wishing to take part in the preliminary bouts on this programme should communicate with [he secretary, Mr. T. Srnale, or Mr. Reg. Humphreys.
