FIVE DAYS ON END
FALLS ON MI. EGMONT NEW PLY HOrTH FREEZES (TV'l Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. Unprecedentedly heavy snow on the high country to the east of Stratford on Saturday and a fifth successive day of snowfall's in a still atmosphere on Mount Egmont yesterday characterised one of the coldest week-ends Taranaki has experienced for years. Practically no snow has melted round the mountain houses .and it has been inches thick siace the first heavy fall on Wednesday.
The temperatures have been correspondingly low throughout the province. The temperature at New Plymouth dropped below freezinf point yesterday morn log. A glassy, smooth, thin film of ice prevented more than 80 cars from being driven up the North Egmont road yesterday. . Many cf the cars which did reach the hostel had to be manhandled over the slippery section.
