BITTER STORM CONTINUES
CANTERBURY LASHED STATE BLOCKS CLODDED (Per Press Association.) 'CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The fierce south-westerly gale, accompanied by rain, hail, snow and
sleet, which has been sweeping Christchurch and other parts of Canterbury since the middle of last week, continued yesterday. Although there were short spells of clear weather, there was no indication of a sustained improvement. The bad weather, however, did not cause any serious flooding. The main trouble was in north Linwood. where during the construction of the State houses, the drain was filled in to allow the transport of materials. This caused the back gardens Of several properties to be filled with water to a depth of some IB inches, and poultry keepers and gardeners were caused much inconvenience and loss.
The Wahine was nearly two hours late on Saturday and the Maori an hour late yesterday. The south-bound Union Airways aeroplane was 45 minutes late yesterday morning, but otherwise the timetable has been maintained. Snow On the hill roads has made _it necessary for motorists to use chains in many cases, but there has been no serious dislocation of traffic. During the week-end there was some ski-lag on Cashmere Hills.
