FIRST ROUND SERIES CONCLUDING MATCHES SPELL LOR A GRADE Basketball players in the B and C. grades of the Poverty Bay Basketball association's competition were occupied on Saturday with the concluding matches of the first round. The A grade teams had a spell from championship play as their series had been completed with tne exception of one match. High School A v. St. Mary’s A. However, next Saturday all grades are expected to be in action once more with the commencement of the second round Of outstanding interest on Saturday was the meeting for the first time uus season of the B grade teams Mangapapa B and St. Mary’s 81. who uad snared the honours at the head of me competition. Mangapapa did not piay their usual snappy game and sintered their first defeat tor the season in championship play by a fairly substantial margin.

St. Mary’s Bl are the sole undefeated team in the B grade and have a record of six wins. Mangapapa B and Haiti have had five wins; Cash Stores, four wins; High School B. three wins; Caledonians, two wins; H.S.O.G. B, St. Mary’s B2 and Y.M.C.A. no wins. The summary of the C grade competition to date shows that High C, who have played seven games, have won six and drawn one. whne St Mary’s Cl have played six games and won six. The Wesley, team has had five wins; St. Mary’s C2. four wins- H.5.0.G., three wins; Mangapapa' C, Kia Toa and St. Mary’s C 3, one win each. SATURDAY’S SCORES B.
