SPECIAL MOBILE FORCE ACCELERATION URG E D (Reed. July 6, 9 a.m.) MELBOURNE, July 5. At to-day’s meeting of the Defence Council, the Minister of Defence, Brigadier G. A. Street, urged on the Government Ithe need for ,the immediate acceleration of the more vital provisions of the three-year defence programme. The council discussed the delay in obtaining Parliamentary sanction for raising the permanent mobile force of 7500 as recommended by the Inspec-tor-General of the Military Forces, Lieutenant-General E. K. Squires. Stress was laid on the gravity of the international situation and the importance attached by General Squires to the value o.f a. mobile force. The council will continue the meeting tomorrow.
