UP TO 600 DEATHS
THE FOURTH OF JULY TOLL OF CELEBRATIONS (Reed. July 6, 9 a.m.) NEW YORK, July 5. Despite the widespread campaign for a safe and sane Fourth of July holiday, the violent idealt'h toll reached approximately 600. Highway accidents claimed the largest number, 255. Fireworks, which usually are a prolific source of deaths during Independence Day celebrations, resulted 1 in. only two fatalities although many persons were injured by them. California led all the States with 64 deaths.
