DECISIVE WINS
BASKETBALL PLAY CM A MPT ON SHIP SERI ES A AND O' GRADE ONLY Decisive victories were a feature of Saturday's matches in the Poverty Bay Basketball Association’s championship series. The pDy saw the conclusion of the first round of the A grade competition, with the exception of one match, High School A v. St. Mary’s A, which will be played in the near future. The first round of the C grade competition was almost completed, too, but there were no championship games in the B grade in view of the absence of the representative B' team in Opotiki. It is expected that two more playing Saturdays will be required to end the first round of the B grade series. The summary of play to date in the A division shows Tuis and H.S.O.G. A 1 in the lead for the senior -title, each side having scored six wins and one loss. However, High School A stands a chance of coming up on terms with the leaders when they play St. Mary’s A in the last match of the round. It is not certain when that game will take place, for next Saturday the School side goes to Wairoa to play the Wairoa District High School representatives. In the C grade St. Mary’s Cl have played five games and won all. The team actually has had the same number of wins as Wesley, who have played seven matches and lost two. As the second-round fixtures will not commence next Saturday, several of the A grade teams will take the opportunity of meeting country teams in friendly matches.
