was resumed at 11 a.m. when Dowson and Leatham, their respective totals standing at 52 and 5, went to tho wickets. Just after p’ay commenced Dowson sent up an easy catch which was missed, and a few minutes later gave another opportunity to a fieldsman, which was not accepted, and then 200 appeared on the board. At 208 Leatham was given a life. Several changes in tho bowling wore effected but proved fruitless, and the pair continued to rattle on the-score for half an hour, when Leatham gave a chance which Baillie accepted, and the total stood 244—7 26. Fano partnered Dowson whose individual score was 87. The latter was playing with confidence and was thoroughly set, and together with Pane soon increased tho score till the third century was reached. ■ Shortly afterwards Dowson had a Third life through the inability of Swan to accept an easy catch. Tho local bowlers were put to tho test every available one being tried, but Dowson and Fane defied all and continued to rapidly increase the tota 1 , banging the balls in all directions. In two consecutive overs he scored 16 and 22 respectively. It was apparent now that no separation could possibly be effected, and tho field settled down to cha c the balD. Run after run was added, and the bowling changed and rechanged but without result, bothrplaying brilliant cricket, but Dowson during his innings gave no less than six openings to take his wicket, but they were not taken advantage of. As showing how the bowling was mastered it may be mentioned that Dowson 'Lit 13 off three consecutive balls. Tho approach of the luncheon adjournmant saw the fourth hundred on the board, and whoa five more were added an adjournment was made, and tho Englishmen declared their innings closed with a lead of 200 over Wairarapa on the first essay. Additional scores —Leatham 26, Fane (not out) 26, Dowson (not out) 218. Dowson’s score included 6 sixes, 5 fives, 17 fours and one three. Ho was an hour and forty minutes at the wickets scoring 106.
On resuming after luncheon Hargreaves opened to Baillic and Thompson to Judd. The partnership realised six when Judd was cleverly stumped. Cargill replaced him and only knocked up a single when Bailie was dismissed, caught in the slips —7.2. 3, Swan, the successful batsman in the previousinnings, filled the vacancy, and retired after playing three balls, 1 b w —7. 3. 0. Cobcroft, next man, was caught slips off the first ball—7. 40. Logan came next and Cargill was bowled —7. 5. 1. Perry replaced Cargill and carried the score to twelve, when he was given out 1b w. Madson, top scorer in the first innings, _ associated Perry but hopes of a repetition of the performance were soon misplaced, as after obtaining a couple of byes lie sent one to Bosanquet, who hold it lightly—ll, 7, 0. A stand was made ou 11. Hawke joining Perry, and the score was raised to 27 when the latter gave an opportunity, which he accepted—27, 8, 14 Laurcnson played two balls for ni l , and in the next over Bosanquet accepted an invitation to catch him—27, 9, 0. Renall scored two and got caught by Whatman. Ticehurst did likewise. Becchy repeated the performance of the two previous strikers, and the board reached I t for 32. F. Hawke and Ogier followed suit, and were disposed of for an additional one to the total. H. Madsen, Cundy and Galway took the total to 43. When 54 was recorded sixteen wickets were down. One more run was added and the next wicket fell. Eighteen wickets were down for 5S at 4 o’clock. The partnership between Feast and Nicholls, which produced twentyflre came to a termination by being caught by Bosanquet. Key a joined Nicholls and raised the score to 101. 20, 31. Frith partnered and played careful cricket until 119 was reached, when Bnsauquet caught him in the slips and the innings concluded showing Wairarapa was beaten by an innings and 91 runs.

Wairarapa bowling analysis—Cargill, 0 for 45 ; Keys, 1 for 47 ; Firth, 1 for 37; Judd, 1 f0r,75 ; Ticehurst, 0 for 30; Cobcroft, 1 for 65 ; Hawke, 1 for 57 ; Logan 0 for IS; Beechy 0 for 24. The visitors left for Wellington this evening.
