HISS JANET WALDORF.
Grand Holiday Attraction.
The visit to Greymouth of so high-olass and talented an actress as Miss Janet Waldorf, may well be deemed an important event in the history of the stage on the West Coast, for from outside reports and the notices that have appeared in the Metropolitan press, the district has never been exploited by an artist of the calibre of Miss Waldorf, who has literally acted up to all the nice things that have been said about her. Even as a debutante when she appeared as Juliet in "Borneo and Juliet iu New York, the critics unanimously hailed her as a coming “ Star,” a prognostication that has been borne ont ro the letter, for Miss Waldorf now occupies a place on that high-plane of artistic excellence reserved only for the fittest, and takes rank as one of America’s high-olass representative actresses. Since the New York saalon Mias Warldorf has to«red the United States with the greatest success, and visited in turn Honolulu, Japan, China, Manila, Straits Settlement Burma, India and Ceylon. Her tour through this colony has also v added fresh laurels to her fame. The company have just finished a big three week’s season in Wellington, where on the fall of the curtain on the last performance, one of the most enthusiastic scenes took place. The large audience rose en masse and cheeredjthe brilliant young artist again and again, while boquets and other tokens of esteem in profusion were being handed over the footlights. During the season here the following plays will be produced “As you Like It,” “Camille,” lugomar," “Lady of Lyons," and ‘Borneo and Juliet.’ Such a treat should be missed by none.
