The Post’s Raetilu correspondent telegraphs that a hundred men have been discharged from the North Island Mdin Trunk Works there at a moment s notice. Mo* t of the men are distressed as there is no other work to be got in the district.
The Discovery Christchurch, Dec 17,
The Discovery is to go into dock again to-morrow morning as a little farther work on her hull has been found necessary. She is to come out on Friday and to leave on hot voyage to the Antarctic regions on Saturday at 2 p.m. Lord Ranfurly. The Governor left for Wellington by tbeTutanekai this afternoon. The Ariadne Case. The examination of six fresh witnesses in the Ariadne case will take place in the Magistrate’s Court on Thursday. Nelson College Sports. Nelson, Deel7.
The annual College sports held to-day were largely attended and competition in all events was good. The senior cup was won R. Fell 1 ; A. Burge, 2 ; R. Furness 3. The junior cup was won by M ckay and K. Ross, second. The Majoribanks shield was won by W. Moyes.
