THE KANAKA LABOR BILL.

PER PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.]

Brisbane, Dec 16,

The Government has n quested Lord Hopetoun to reserve the Kanaka Bill for the King’s assent in order that Queensland may have an opportunity of appealing tj the Throne against the measure. The Government represent the Bill as being in direct conflict with the principle laid down by Mr Chamberlain, that legislation which imposes disqual fication on account of a race and colour, is contrary to conceptions guiding the British rule throughout the Empire, and that the provisions inflict a grovious wrong to the State of Queensland as distinguished by the rest of the Commonwealth.
