ANTARCTIC SHIP DISCOVERY.

[per press association]

Christcunbch, Dec 7.

Ihe statements by the London correspondents of colonial newspapers as to the rumors affecting the seaworthiness of the antarctic vessel; Discovery, were brought under the notice of Capt Scott today, He at once pronounced them to be sensational and exaggerated in the extrema. The ship had not been at her best on the voyage out, but he was quite satisfied with her seaworthiness, and he anticipated that after leaving Lyttctton there would be no farther trouble. He would like it stated officially that he had every confidence in the vessel and was thoroughly satisfied with her from the point of view of her s. a going capacity. James Miller, a practical shipwright at Lyttelton, also scouted the sensational rumors. No doubt ihe vessel leaked somewhat on the voyage out, but that was due to her being new and built of hard wood, which does not swell so quickly as softer material. When the few repairs necessary had been effected the Discovery would go out of dock as sound and fit for the undertaking as any ship could he made.
