Result of Federal Tariff. Wellington, This Day. The Monowai takes from New Zealand to Sydney to-day only 85 tons of cargo, viz., 55 from South Island; 15 from Wellington and 15 from West Coast. The Divorce Court. At the sitting of the Divorce Court in Camera, decree nisi was granted in the cises of Annie A. Crawford v. W. E. Crawford, and Jean B. McDonald v. Henry McDonald. Christchurch, Dec 7. In the Divorce Court this morning a decree nisi in the case of Margaret M’Millan and L. B. M’Millan was granted, A Compassionate Allowance. Wellington, This Day.
Government has granted a compassionate allowance to the widow of Laeunare, who was an officer of customs in Christchurch.
Timber Duty. It is expected that the Government will at an early date bring into operation that part of the timber export duty act of last session, which enables it to levy duty on all exported timber except sawn flitches.
A Number of Fires. Napier, This Day.
The residence of John Marshall at Petone was totally destroyed by fire. Nothing was saved. The insurance is £650 in the fouth British and Farmers’ Co-operative.
New Plymouth, Dec 9,
The Gainlin’s boiling down establishment on Hursthouse road was burnt last night. The loss is about £470. There was no insurance.
Auckland, Dec. 9.
Harbour View Hotel and contents at Ranglan owned by L. D. Nathan and occupied by Baker, was burned. It was iusured in the Norwich Union for £1,520. Bakers stock was insured for £SOO in the North British.
A Magisterial enquiry into the Waimate fire will be held on Monday. The vessel will not be able to get away to Auckland till after that.
