Charge of Garrotting. Chbistchubch, Dec 3

Two men named Walsh, and Smith, were remanded to-day on a charge of garrotting and robbing a man in Madras Street last night. The Discovery. The Antarctic vessel Discovery was placed in dock at Lyttelton to-day for cleaning and recaulking. As the vessel can take only 50 of the 250 sheep offered a ballot was taken to-day among the contributors, and 12 to supply 5 sheep each were seleoted. The Waimate on Fire. At tho Ministerial enquiry into the Royal Tar wreck Captain Morrison said he was on the deck till midnight, F. Bandsom was at the wheel, and a man was on the look out when the vessel struck. Witness was not on deck till after the vessel struck. He left Boatswain Hunt in charge when he occasionally went below after midnight. When asked if there was no certificated officer on deck to see that the course was kept, witness said the boatswain was competent enough to do so.
