[per press ASSOCIATON —COPYRIGHT.] Melbourne, Nov 20.

Sydney, Nov 20,

The sealing-up of vessels’ stores by the Federal Customs and charging duty on stores have been forcibly resisted by the ocean-going vessels, and several vessels after their stores were sealed steamed outside the three mile limit and broke the seals with the intention of forcing the Federal Government to defend its position The latter, however, has withdrawn from the position and issued instructions to revert to the old method. Stores are now being issued aboard ships duty free.

Melbourne, Nov 20.

Mr Kingston informed the House that the Government decided to place the New Zealand pine for butter boxes on the free list. When twitted with the remission he said that if it could be shown that Australia possessed timber suitable for butter boxes he would gladly reimpose the duty.
