THE EARTHQUAKES.

The earthquake at 7.50 on Monday n'ght which caused further apprehension at Cheviot, was felt at Waiau and was considered to bo the most severe since Saturday morning. Tbe shock very much upset the women folk, some of whom had not their clothes off sinco Saturday morning.
At five minutes to eleven there was another shock and at 2.20 a.m. there was a third, which caused a commotion in the hotel. At about sevon o'clock there was another but slighter shock, and during tho re3t of the morning there was quietness. A 4.5 this afternoon a sharp shock was felt at Waikare. A relief fund for the Cheviot sufferers has been started and already a considerable sum has been collected.
A movement is on foot to provide temporary accomodation here for women and children whose homes were destroyed and a number of benefit entertainments will be given.
The Postmaster at Cheviot wired the Department at 2 p.m. "No further shocks. A hard gale is blowing.''
