Received this day at 10 6 a m. Melbourne, Nov 18, Replying to Phclp’s protest against the Kanaka Bill, Barton declines to admit that State legislation represents public opinion more truly than that of the Federal Parliament which Queensland helped to choose. No good ground existed for supposing that labour was not available to carry on the sugar industry. Barton adds that the Commonwealth will take the responsibility of deporting the Kanaka whatever the result may be.
