WRECK OF AN ITALIAN BARQUE.
(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
Dunedin, November 3,
Saturday’s gale does not appear to have done any serious damage to the barque Antiocco Accame as she lies on the beach at Kartigi, so far as could be made out. Lloyd’s surveyors could not got to the vessel, the weather being so rough, but some members of the crew who boarded her on Friday evening report that the water is wa-hing in and out with every sea. The barque is on an even keel. Tae sails have been blown to pieces, but the rigging appears intact. The surveyors have recommended that the vessel be sold at once. Experts think it would cost as much to float the vessel as she is worth, aud success would be problematical. The gale did no serious damage in the city beyond blowing down a few fences, smashing some trees, etc.
