THE QUARTERLY REVENUE.

Thi ordinary revenue account of the consolidated fund for the quarter ended September 31st, shows a balance of £52,437 as against £169,630 at the end of the previous quarter. The principal items of revenue were as follows: —Customs, £623,967; railways, £423,023 ; stamps, £184,759; territorial revenue, £78,039; permanent appropriations during the quarter amounted to £997,910 as against £817,034 for the September quarter of 1901. Under the latter heading the Colonial Secretary’s appropriation has increased from £34,403 to £60,937, the Postmaster General’s from £142,303. The Minister of Agriculture from £15,530 to £18,870, and the working of railways from £269,557 to £359,972 as between the corresponding periods of the two years. The amount transferred to the public works account during the quarter was £235,000. The appropriation in fund amounted to £569,031 as against £251,645 for the corresponding quarter of 1900, and the balance is now £352,398 as compared with £686.928 at the beginning of the quarter. Tiio issue of £90,000 worth of Treasury Bills has increased the amount of such bills outstanding to £890,000. The Land for Settlement Account received £220,300 for the purchases of debentures.
