THE COLONIAL SUGAR COMPANY.
[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT.]
Sydney, Oct 30,
The Colonial Sugar Coy’s profits for the half year are £93,927, and a dividend of ten per cent is declared, The report was adopted. It stated that the crops in New South Wales and Queensland have suffered much from frost, and the Fiji crop from drought. It is improbable that ihe yield for the present season will reach the estimate.
The Chairman stated that the stoppage of Kanakas coming to Queensland must necessarily cause a collapse of the sugar industry within the tropics. For the consequences of this proposed act of injustice the company is fully prepared, but it is (eared that the same is not sayab'e about many farmers. The expected chang- sof duties will not materially alter the position. The depression in the sugar market is serious and they must prepare for a lower range of prices than previously allowed.
