The Missing Monowai.

Sighted off Bluff in tow of Mokoia

(PEE PEESS ASSOCIATION.)

Invbecaegiia, October 24. Just after 3 o'clock to-day the signalman at Bluff Hill reported three steamers 15 miles to the westward, and shortly after madu out two to be the Mokoia with the Monowai in tow, the third being the Eimu going to the Bluff, which h*d fallen in with them off Puysegur this morning. Instruations were signalled to the Mokoia to proceed to Port Chalmers, and the ships passed Long Island at 6 o'clock, the Mokoia making good progress with he'r tow, and she should reach the port early to morrow forenoon.

The causes of the breakdown is not known, but the Monowai signalled '* All well."

It is surmised that the tail shaft is broken or the propellor gone, necessitating docking.

Marks, of the Rimu, on being interviewed, said that he had not ascertained the nature of the breakdown, so that absolutely nothing is known hero except what is narrated.

The Harbor Board's tug had not gc t gteatn up, and could not go out to intercept the steamers and get the particulars.

As the Mokoia left here on Tuesday night, she probably fell in with the Monowai about 100 rniles clear of the land. Dunkdin, Oct 24. Nothing has been learnt as to iho nature of the accident to the Monowai. After the two steamers arrive at Fort Chalmers to morrow, the Mooowai's pasBODger3 will be transferred to the Mokcia and the latter will leave for Melbourne in the afternoon.
