The Monowai Missing.
Supposed to have broken down in
Mid-ocean.
[per PRESS ASSOCIATON —COPYRIGHT.] Hobart, October 21. If the Monowai is not reported soon, the’Orowaiti will start to search for her. Dunediv, October 21. Captain Sprinks of the Mokoia, which is leaving Bluff for Hobart this afternoon, has instructions to take double time on the voyage in case anything has gone wrong with the Monowai.
The Herald, leaving Bluff for Groymouth to-morrow, will also make a careful search on the Coast, while the Corinna, which is leaving Westport tomorrow, will take sufficient coal to last 20 days, and will go to Hobart on a zigzag course.
The Union Company has no anxiety as to the Monowai, as information from Hobart is that strong south-west winds are prevalent similar to those on the coast here, but these precautions are being taken so as to allay public anxiety. Melbourne, This Day.
There is much concern felt regarding the Union S.S. Company’s steamer “ Monowai.”
Bluff, This Day. The Westralia reports no sign of the Monowai on her passage from Melbourne to Bluff.
