Low, Commandant of the Bombay army who is present on a visit to the Colonies, advised them not to take the alarmist cable messages too seriously. The contingency of the Ameers death was not altogether untorseen by the Indian Government and the military authorities if trouble arose was prepared for it. The army comprised 75,000 British and 200,000 natives, and they never were in a fitter condition than at present. The Times Simla correspondent says that the Kabul envoy reports that the Afghans are delighted with Hahihuiiah.
