NEW ZEALAND PRODUCE.

London Inspector’s Report.

(pee peess association.)

Wellington, Oct. 5,

Mr Cameron, the Inspector of New Zealand produce in London, in his report dated August 30th, says there is every likelihood that butter and cheese from the Colony will have a good market during the coming season, especially butter for which there is a large demand at fair prices.

For both products the season at home has been rather unfavorable for the production of dairy produce, and there has been a deficiency in make of both butter and cheese. Though Russia has been sending greatly increased supplies, he does not think this will have any serious effect in lowering the demand for New Zealand butter as it will be a considerable time before the Russian article can compete with New Zealand for quality and reliability. It is, however, satisfactory to note that New Zealand producers have ’ taken serious notice of Russian dairy developsmeat and if the improvement this season, in levelling up the quality of New Zealand butter is as marked as last year, the result should bo to thoroughly establish its good reputation. Cheese is capable of much improvement in packing, and factories should make half their output white and half colored. To avoid smashing, butter boxes must not be made of lighter material than in the past.
