‘Vocalist was sent a good spin in the sand once round, which he finished iu 2 33. Grasspan, with Kuhn up, beat Lord Rudolph over half a mile, covered in 51 secs,
Dreamland (Ross) and Startler (Lewis) galloped V( miles, both ridden out in 2 21.
San Fran went freely over a mile in 1 50.
Hautvillicrs and The Bride were associated U mile spin, which occupied 218|. Lucknow swept over six furlongs in 120.
Warrior and Caravel were restricted to a mile, for which 1 53 was registered. Lady Grafton with Kohine galloped a mile, the last six furlongs of which occupied 1 23. La France with the assistance of Rely ran a mile in 1 48|, Bonnie duel taking 1 48£ to compass a similar distance.
Wagering over the Caulfield Cup is quiet.
Ampler, before winning the Stand Handicap at Plemington to-day, was backed on behalf of the stable for the chief event at Caulfield to win £5,000. and the best price now obtainable about him is 12 to 1.
Combat has been backed at 1000 to 30. Grasspan receded to 16 to 1 owing to his defeat by Haymaker.
At tho Y.R.C. Meeting to-day the chief event was the October Stakes : Haymaker ' 1 Grasspan 2 George Frederick 3 Grasspan led into the straight, but Haymaker swept away in a dashing style winning by 4 lengths. Time 3 10. Mile Trotting Record. Sydney, Oct. 5. Fitzgerald’s “ Huon Junior ” lowered the Australian trotting mile record to 2min 20|secs, Hawke’s Bay Races. Napxbe, October 5.
The first day’s racing for the Hawke’s Bay J. C. spring meeting was held to-day in splendid weather. There was a large attendance and the racing was good. The following are the results: — Hack Handicap Hurdle Race, 1A mile— Molvskin 1, K Jam 2, Waterport 3. Time, 2 58 ’ divs., £2 2s and 14s. Maiden Hack Race, 7 furlongs—la and Apres ran a dead heat, Culcita 3. Time, 1 30A ; divs., la £1 12s, Apres £2 10s.
King Edward Handicap, 1 mile and 116 yards—Okoari 1, Perfection 2, Nonette 3. Time, 150 ; div., £8 10s and £3 18s.
First Handicap Hurdles 1* miles. — Derringcotte 1, Sea lywag 2, Sylvanus 3. Time, 3 22; divs., £ll7s and £3.
Hasting Stakes, 4 furlongs—Porirna 1, Stepdaughter 2, Dirk 3. Time, 49Asecs ; divs., £4 16s and £1 J Os,
Welter Handicap, 1 mile—Paphos 1, Rubin 2, Warwick 3. Time, 1 41A ; divs., £2 11s and 17s.
