Marine Enquiry. Sydney, September 27. In the Marine enquiry into the case of the steamer Moonstone, lost off Ocean Island while loading guano, the evidence showed that there was a remarkable laxity of management of the vessel in such dangerous waters. The master and chief officer were called upon to show cause why their certificates should not be dealt with.
Reid on the Immigration Bill. Melbourne, Sept 27.
Mr G. H. Eeid, speaking on the Immigration Bill, vehemently protested against last night’s decision, which was tantamount to the subordination of the vital interest of Australia to the views of Chamberlain.
Earth Convulsions. Received this day, at 9 50 a.m. Adelaide, This Day. A violent seismic disturbance is reported at Victoria River in the northern territory on August 11th, A terrific explosion was heard accompanied by rumblings and severe vibrations.
