American Cup Race.

The Heat Declared off.

Two to One on Columbia.

[per PRESS ASSOCIATON —COPYRIGHT.]

New York, September 26. An enormous excursion fleet of 200 yachts viewed the race. The wind was northeast, and an eight-knot breeze. Within half an hour the Shamrock was a quarter of a mile ahead. Then the wind fell and the Columbia successfully tacked across the Shamrock’s bows and soon led her by a quarter of a mile. The Shamrock caught a fresh pufi and pushed along, but the breeze afterwards favored the Columbia, which rounded the mark half-a-mile ahead. The wind then dropped two knots and the race was declared off, the American representative being three-quarters of a mile ahead with 3:] miles uncovered. The race is to be re-sailed to-morrow. London, September 27. Yesterday the crowd in Dublin watched with greater eagerness for the result of the race than the pollings at the general election. Eeceived this day at 9 25 a.m. New York, September 27. Pierpont Morgan is confident that since the Columbia is able to beat the Shamrock in a light breeze, she is certain to win in a fresh one. Lipton is still hopeful that the Shamrock will outpace her rival. The American Press declare that Captain Barr, who sails the Columbia, eclipses Captain Sycamore in seamanship. Betting is two to one on the Columbia.
