Drowned. Dunedin, September 28. A young man, William M’Donald, watchmaker, was drowned in the harbor this morning. He was going out_to the yacht Melma with a chain for a buoy. The chain got twisted round his leg and he was dragged down and drowned. Government Blood Stock. Ohmsxchuboh, September 23. At the horse parade to-day much dissatisfaction was expressed at Lupin, Saukim, and Maladin, the three blood horses imported from England by the Government as they are oosidered too ■mall and quite unsuitable to get remount*.

He came to the Colony in 1853 under the auspices of the Church Missionary Society, and was Vicar of St. Peters Wellington from 1856 to 1886, when he retired on account of ill health. Invercargill, This Day. A bush worker named Carlo Morandi a native of Switzerland, aged 55, was found dead in his hut with his head and arm in the fire. The arm was burned to the bone. He had apparently fainted and fallen.

The Mayor of Wellington is convening a meeting of women, for arranging for sending a hamper of Christmas comforts to New Zealanders at the front.
