Ship Abandoned. Sydney, September 19. The Haureto brought the crew of of the Norwegian barque Strathminister Seimer. She sprung a, leak en route from Apia t > Tonga to load copra. The captain desired to return to New Zealand, but the crew insisted that they \ must steer to the nearest port—Nukualofa, Tonga. In entering the harbor she struck a reef and was so badly damaged as to bo abandoned. Details of the Hoonstone Wreck. The Quirang arrived with the crew of the Moonstone, Wrecked on Ocean Island, where'they arrived on July 3rd. On the morning of "July 27 th, when they had almost completed a cargo of 3,000 tons of phosphates for New Zealand, whilst attempting to pick up moorings, she bumped heavily on a reef at the south end of the Island. With the assistance of the Pacific Island Company’s staff all the personal effects and ship’s stores were saved. The cargo was jettisoned, but the vessel gradually settled down the same night, slipped of the reef and sank in 130 fathoms.
The crow were a month on the Island before the Quirang arrived.
