CATHOLIC SCHOOL EXAMINATION.

(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.)

\ . : Auckland, Sept 9. The Chief Inspector,-reporting to the Board of Education on the examination oE Boman Catholic schools examined by the inspectors, said little work is done in some of the class subject l ) included in the public school course. This is especially true of science and history. Now, a cop. dition on which pupils are passed in 'afcftodards 111. to VI. (inclusive) is that they have received regular instruotion in these subjects. In few (if in any) of the Boman Cat hoHo schools is this condition really fulfilled. I would therefore suggest that the Board should point out to the manager of the Boman Catholic schools that in future years the Inspectors will net bo able to grant passes in these standards, or. indeed, in any standard unless the courses of in. 1 stouction in each of the class subjects conform to the programme set forth in the public school syllabus, and are of such fullness as to show that regular .instruction bus been given in each class subject. i

Mr Lambe, a member of the Board, said this was a most important report, and showed that', the children in the Boman Catholic schools were not receiving the instruction given to children in the primary schools. It was decided to send a copy of the .Inspector's letter to the Roman Catholic schools.
