Boat Accident. Dunedin, This Day.

Alfred Dawson an Aueaka settler, was drowned while fishing in the Tautuku river on Sunday, In crossing the bar the boat got swamped. Martin, the other, occupant, reached the shore. Deceased leaves a widow and four children.

Another Labor Dispute. Wellington, This Day.

The case filed.by the Wellington Typographical Society respecting the conditions of hand compositing came before the Conciliation Board to-day. It was explained that the chief object was to bring country offices into line with the city offices, and that the only demands seriously contested by the city employers were those as to wages and hours. Other conditions already ruled in all city offices but one. Both sides were anxious to get on to the Arbitration Court and have the question settled as quickly as possible. The hearing was adjourned till afternoon to enable the parties to confer in the hope of reducing the number of disputed items Volunteer Appointments. Captain Joyce of the Commandant’s Staff has been apointed adjutant of the Otago military visit; Lieut. J. G. Davies instructor to the mounted corps in the North Island, and Lieut H. H. Brown lor the South Island, A class of instruction for officers will bo held at Wellington on the Ist October.
