WRECK OF THE ALEXA.
[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT.]
Sydney, August 27. Details of the wreck of the barque Alexa on Surprise Island snow that she drifted on the reef in a hurricane. The ctew of ten effected a landing with much difficulty in the only boat lefc after the storm, the Alexa then breaking up. Part of the crew reached New Caledonia in their own boat. The remainder found a boat that had drifted ashore from a passing vessel' and started for Noumea. After being nine days at sea, and suffering great hardships, they were picked up by a steamer sent to search for them. A strange feature of the affair is that the boat, after drifting some hundreds of i''. miles, should opportunely be stranded on Surprise Island and fallen into good hands. The castaways and the mate terorned to the wreck to look after the interests of the owners. The Captain came on to Sydney to report to the underwriters.
