OUR KUMARA LETTER.
(OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
The funeral of the late William Talbot took place on Monday morning. He was interred in the Kumara cemetery, the service at the grave being performed by the Eev. Mr. Thompson. Deceased had reached the patriarchal ago of 86 years, and for many years kept a circulating library in Seddon street. Latterly lie was an old age pensioner. What promises to be one of the most successful socials of the year, judging from the talent already secured, is the coming annual social in connection with St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, now being arranged by the Eev. Mr. Thompson. I learn that he has secured the services of Miss Oxenham and Miss Holder and Messrs. Moss and Stark, all of Greymouth, together with the leading talent of Hokitika, not to mention local stars. The date fixed is September 4th. The usual fortnightly meeting of the Young Mens’ Club was hold last evening, when final arrangements were made in connection with the annual social to bo held this evening in the Masonic Hall. It is being held thus soon as a send-off to Mr G. Eudkin, a quondam secretary, and one of the most attentive members who did a great deal towards putting the club on a solid and permanent basis. Mr Budkin has just resigned his charge under the Westland Education Board and intends to tempt fortune in the North Island where wo all wish him every success. The principal business of the evening was a lecture by Mr Bennie on Architectural drawing which proved very instructive and interesting. At the conclusion of his discourse the lecturer was highly complimented by the members present.
