ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
[per peess association.] , OfIEISTCHUECH, August 12. A man named George Smith, who foil off a dray two days ago, died in tho hospital today. About seven o'clock last night a mau was found in a concrete street horse trough the head and shoulders only under watori but dead. Tho man found drowned last night was identified as William Henry James, groom for J. Wild, Papanui, How he came to be in the trough cannot be ascertained. Ho was a married man with a family. The inquest will be hold to-morrow. A man named Balph Wilson cut his throat with a pocket knife at Kaiapoi last night, and was brought to the Christchurch Hospital, whore the wound was stitched, and it is not expected that the result will bo fatal. Christchurch, This Day. At tho inquest on William James, who was found drowned on Saturday night in a water trough, tho jury returned a verdict that death was due to drowning, but that there was no evidence to show how he got into tho water.
