In view of the improved trade prospects and federal developments, the Trades Unionists are generally closing up their ranks and making determined efforts to secure better working conditions and wages. Melbourne, August 6 Mr Barton, speaking at the Australian Native’s Association banquet, said it wa's the desire of the Government that the administration of New Guinea should be speedily vested in the Commonwealth, and steps have been taken to accomplish this.

Brisbane, August 6, Cameron, ministerialist, was elected unopposed to the vacancy in the Assembly for North Brisbane.
