Opening of N S Wales Parliament. Sydney, July 23. Parliament was opened by commission. The proceedings were confined to swearing in members. Mr M’Conrt was re-elected Speaker of the Assembly. The official opening will take place tomorrow.
A meeting of the Opposition decided to challenge the Government on the Address-in-Reply.
Presbyterian Assembly. The Presbyterian Assembly of Australia and Tasmania adopted a resolution ' dissolving the old Federal Assembly preparatory to the constitution of a ■General Assembly to-morrow after signing the deed of union. Adelaide, July 24. In the Assembly the Treasurer stated that in consequence of unexpected expenditure in Federation, War, and Royal visit, the financial year closed would show a deficit of’;£13,000. Billiard Match. In a billiard match Roberts versus 'Weiss for 7,000 up, the latter receiving 2000, was won by Roberts by 088. A Brilliant Meteor. An extraordinary brilliant meteor was seen in the southern districts last night. A coincident was that in the same districts there were earth tremors.
