[PBS P 8839 ASSOCIATION.] Christian Church Meeting. Dunedin, July 15. At the annual meeting of the Council . of Christian Churches, Rev. J. J. Lewis (Wesleyan) was elecected president and R. W. Saunders (Congregation) secretary. During the discussion on the report, W. Hutchison said that he was informed that gambling was rife among the contingents and gambling went on all way across on the Tagus. The only way the evil could be checked was by legislation and if the Council wanted i to do anything now was the time when Parliament was sitting. Nothing was done iu the matter by the meeting. Conciliation Matters. Cheistthubch, July 15. The Conciliation Board this afternoon heard evidence in a case brought by the Freezers Union against the Christchurch and Canterbury Meat Freezing Company. Evidence was given on behalf of the men, but the employers were not represented and no evidence was called on their behalf. The Board will probably give their award on Friday'. Big Game Importation. ,• The Canterbury Acclimatisation Society ' voted £2OO to the Government to assist in the importation of big game, restricting the importation of such game, the habitation of which is above or near the sno w line. The Inch Yalley accident. Dunedin, Jnly 16. The inquest was concluded to-day touching; the circumstances connected with tVe death of the three men killed by the tall of earth at the Inch Yalley lime kiln works. The jury returned a verdict to the effect that the death of deceaseds was caused by want of proper precautions and appliances due to the culpable neglect of duty by George Francis Robinson, engineer in charge of the work for. the Government. It is not known if any further proceedings will be taken. The Railway iiccidant. Invehcakgill, July 16. The coroner and the jury to-day found that John Murdoch was killed at the Bin if on Saturday night through coming in contact with some portion of the train while it was in motion, and state that in their opinion the ends oE the plat- '■ ifprm and the railway yard are insuffiefiently lighted, it*.,-
