ARRIVAL OF THE CONTINGENTS.

Wellington, July 16.
The officers and men of the Fourth and Fifth Contingents were entertained at luncheon to-day by the citizens of Wellington, the Mayor presiding. Amongst t,ho3e present were the Premier and Mrs Seddon, Sir Joseph and Lady Ward, Messrs Mills, and Carroll. The Hall was gaily decked with bunting, and there was a largo attendance of troops. The customary toasts were proposed and enthusiastically honored, the returned troopers being proposed by the Premier. During tho proceedings the Cocporal of the Fifth presented the Premier with a kaross (or rug) which was composed of silver jackal skin*. He explained that when they arrived at Mafeking the New Zealand battalion, which ho represented, took part in the sports and after winning everything a Mr Muhlenbeck took them to his house and entertained them. He had five sons fighting against the Boers. He expressed his high esteem for the Premier and desired them to present this karos3 to him with his best wishes for his continued success.
