Betting 5 to 1 Laceby, 14 to 1 Freedom. The favorite fell at the first fence breaking his leg, and was destroyed. Freedom held a good position most of the way, and a great struggle took place in the straight with Bethnel. Won by three-quarters of a length. Time 6 32. The Echo Shield. London, July 13. The English team won the Echo Shield with a score af 1608, Scotland 1595, Ireland 1585. Cricket. In tho cricket match, Gentlemen v. Players, on the Kennington Oval, Abel put up a score of 147. Football. Sydney, July 13. New South Wales won 17 points to Queensland's 10 points.
