FREIGHTS AND TRADE EXPANSION.
[QUE PAELIAMENTAEY EEPOETEB.]
Wellington This Day,
Speaking at Pahiatua on Saturday night, the Premier indicated that large concessions would be made this year in railway freights for conveyance of wool. At present, he said, they were paying for freight by steamer's as much as 25 per cent, more than they ought to, owing to the Federation, steamer economies, and other causes. The talk about Australia markets for Now Zealaiftd produce was nonsense as they took only what they could not themselves produce. They must look to markets in other parts of the world. He referred to the excessive profits made by cool storage companies, and said there was room for expansion in Africa and after what we had done for that country wo might expect some return in trade and would get it, because New Zealanders wirj as popu'ar there aj in any other part of the world.
