Shooting the Wounded Confirmed
Boars Surrendering.
London, July 12. In the House of Commons Hon. Mr Brodrick stated that in response to his telegram enquiring in reference to the truth of Wallace’s statement, Lord Kitchener had wired that he received the testimony of 7 men who saw the Boers shoot the wounded at YJakfontein. Hon. Mr Brodrick added that orders were given to take the evidence of these men on oath.
In the House of Commons, Hon Mr Brodrick announced that Kitchener’s despatches contained no suggestion as to the independence of the late Republics. That was the point whereon the peace negotiations failed. As a result of night operation; 50 Boers were captured and 18 surrendered near Edcnburg. Lord Methuen near Zserust surprised and captured a laager and 43 Boers, 29 rifles, 2,000 rounds of ammunition, 38 wagons, and 60C bags of grain. He also collected 40 Boer families.
The Daily Nows says that 60 Brandford Boers, dejected and rigged were brought nto Bloemfontein. Da Wet’s commando is near Bloemfontein.
In the Home of Commons Mr Chamberlain said in reference to Botha’s enquiries from Kitchener, in regard to the peace negotiations, that Britain declines any liability for the debts contracted since the war, but would not repudiate the state loans issued previously so far as can be provided, out of the Transvaal fund
Load Lansdownc stated that Britain intends to differentiate between bona fide investors in the Netherlands railway before the war and those investing later. Foreign Governments have communicated with Great Britain on the subject.
Mr Arnold Forster stated that it was intended to attach the hospital ship Maine to the Mediterranean Fleet.
