On Saturday night, at Bluff, Vincenzo, the carpenter of the Induna, and Cari Swansen, a seaman on the same vessel, fell out in a shop in the township over the hiding of Vincenzo's hat, and in the scuffle Vincenzo slashed Swanson about the head and face with a knife. Vincenzo will be brought before the court to-morrow. f The Weather. Four inches of snow fell this morning, but speedily thawed, and now a sleety rain is falling. The Auckland Sensation. Auckland This Day. The hearing of the charge against Dr John Wilkins that he did on or about May 17th murder Mary O'Dowd concluded to-day. Mr Heed, for accused, urged that the evidence was such as no jury would convict on, and asked the Court, not to commit accused for trial. The Magistrate reserved his decision. New Zealand Insurance Company. The Directors of the New Zealand Insurance Company have declared an interim dividend of 2s per share.
