Stricken with Fever. Received this day a t 8.85 a, m. Sydney, June 15. The ship St. David arrived at Newcastle from Delagott Bay. Eight of the crew of twelve and the chief officer were down with malarial fever and one died. The balance of crew had a hard time working the ship end attending the sick. Tattersa|l’s Sweeps.
Melbourne, Juno 15. Lewis, the Tasmanian Premier, wired to Barton emphatically protesting against the clause in the Postal Bill which deals with the carriage of mail matter in reference to sweeps, and claims that the Federal Parliament has no power to pass laws regulating gambling ; therefore it would bo an infringement of State rights and an attempt to over-ride the legislation under which certain lotteries are legalised in Tasmania.
The Sydenham Railway Accident. Received this da ya t 985 am. Sydney, Jane 15. The Board of Experts appointed to enquire into the Sydenham railway accident are unanimously of the opinion that it was due to excessive speed. The engine was not suitable for high speed on the line which, at th§ point of derailment, was not in g6od order.
