COMMONWEALTH PARLIAMENT

[per press association,—copyright.)

Melbourne, June 14. The Senate adopted a resolution in iavor of opening the sitti* gs with prayer, and the Supply Sill was sent back to the House with a request that a schedule be attached showing the expenditure. In the House the Speaker read the Senate’s message in reference to Supply. Mr Barton accepted all the responsibility of the matter. He was under the impression that the estimates were attached when the Bi|l was forwarded to

the Senate, but inadvertently it_ was not done. He disclaimed any intention of belittling the Senate, which had been given power under the Constitution to make suggestions in regard to money bills, and it was only right that it should be supplied with materials for making such suggestions. While desiringto prevent friction between the two Houses, he would always champion the rights of the House. In order, therefore, to conserve the negative rights of both Houses be moved that the Bill be set aside, and a fresh Bill with a schedule attached sent to the Senate. A lengthly debate ensued, members generally agreeing that Mr Barton adopted the proper constituiional course. The new Bill passed all its stages, and the House adjourned to Wednesday.
